In Atlanta, Georgia, last week (January 1-4), 22,000 students, leaders, and volunteers attending the first of two major Passion 2011 conferences, raised more than $1.1 million for local and global causes—nearly three times the stated goal. Speakers and worship leaders included Louie Giglio, Francis Chan, Beth Moore, John Piper, Chris Tomlin, and David Crowder*Band.
The charitable funds are already reserved for specific purposes that include: Atlanta homeless shelters (88,000 pairs of socks, 18,400 towels), India (24 clean water wells), Haiti (39 homes), and Bolivia (restoring 22 girls trapped in sex slavery). See what others have to say about Passion 2011 so far on Twitter, Facebook, The Huffington Post, and CNN.
If you missed the Atlanta conference, you can still register now for the second Passion 2011 conference, happening April 1-3 in Fort Worth, Texas.
